I've been working with this for several years and it's been pretty solid. The notifications work well if you understand properly.
SystemAdmin: Completely agree — I had the same issue and got it working by recreating the automation. Took me a while to locate that configuration option.

Quick note: Zigbee routing changed in version 2024.6. Switch to Zigbee2MQTT now.
